Ford vehicles have at least 4 tires, so we know they are important! Lets talk about tire size, backspacing, performance and price. Save yourself the headache of guess what those pesky numbers mean and start a conversation. Off-road, race or passenger tires, post comments here.

Wheel caps for 5 hole Ford aluminum mags?

I bought a set of 5-hole Ford aluminum mag wheels from the junkyard and polished them up for my 96 Econoline conversion van. The stud holes are approx. 3.5" from each other (center to center) and the axle hole is approx. 3.5" in diameter. The wheels have three plastic inserts in them for holding the wheel covers on. I am having a hard time finding a center cap for these wheels. I prefer not to use the factory wheel covers, as I have installed 3 Skull style license plate holder studs into the the three plastic inserts used to hold the wheel cover onto the wheel. (Yes it looks totally bitchin). Does anyone know of any type wheel cap that will fit this style of Ford wheel? Surely I'm not the first person to buff a set of Ford mags out and put a center cap thru them. Any advice? P.S. The rear wheels don't look as though a center cap would fit between the wheel and the axle. Maybe something that could be pressed into the center of the wheel?

My 01 Ranger has a low speed shimmy in the front end, when cornering at
10-15 mph. Tires roll like they are out of round up to 45 mph and
then things get better. The tires are close to 6 years old and I am thinking
time for new tires. Tires have 55,000 miles on then, but good thread left.
Tire store says tire manufactures say to replace them before 4 years and I might have other issues. Truck is in excellent condition with 110,000 miles, with the tires rotated and balanced on a regular base.

Could the tires cause a low speed chimmy?

Hello Friends.......

I am on a quest and thought that maybe you could help. I own several new and used retail tire shops. For years I have gotten my used tires from a wholesaler. My business has now grown to the point that I would like to be able to supply myself and cut out the middle man. To do this, I am looking for a piece of equipment that I once saw in operation. I have been unable to find it anywhere. I was hoping maybe you or someone on your staff could identify the equipment’s name and manufacturer.

Thanks

My '99 Ranger with 3.0 engine, automatic, and 2 wheel drive just turned 72,000 miles and still have the original Firestone tires. I think it is time to put some new tires on. The original tires were never good on wet pavement and worse on snow and ice. I live in northern Ohio, so I need all season tires that are very good on snow and ice. I would like to hear from other Ranger owners who can suggest tires that they have had good experience with.

Hi everyone... we are looking at getting an 04 Freestar to replace our 01 Escape. However we JUST got 4 brand new 16" tires as well as very nice alloy wheels from an 06 Mustang for the Escape, so if I sell the car I would prefer to keep the new tires and rims to put on the new car. The Escape DID previously have 15" wheels and my mechanic didn't have a problem putting 16" wheels on it, but I'm really clueless as to if this same process would work for a Freestar... I don't mind if the speedometer is off a little bit or whatever, I'd just really hate to see the new tires and rims wasted on a trade-in where they're not going to give me anything anyway... thanks...
