Most milling machines are three-axis machines; that is, there are handwheels to move the part in the &quot;X&quot; axis (left/right), the &quot;Y&quot; axis (in/out) and the &quot;Z&quot; axis (up/down). In addition to this, the standard Sherline mill has a headstock that can be rotated for angled milling. This is a direction of movement for the cutter, but it is not an &quot;axis&quot; of movement for the part. <br />
