Five HundredFord Five Hundred looks like just another conservatively styled family sedan. But peel away the Passat-like sheet metal and you will find a well engineered, highly competent chassis, much of it lifted from the Ford-owned Volvo S80. The Five Hundred sedan will be sharing this new Volvo-derived platform with the Ford Freestyle untapped markets.
I live in Vermont so it is not the flattest place in the country but our 500 only gets 21 +/-1mpg typically. Before we bought it I talked to a guy that drove a company 06 awd and he claimed to be getting 26, he was driving 150 miles round trip to work and home. Even one of the local ford dealers selling a used one, 05 awd, claims in the ad to get 26 mpg. Are you getting closer to 26 or 21 mpg? How about the non awd? I know driving longer distances will generally give you better mpg but my wife drives about 40 miles of interstate to get to work. I have been considering to see if one of the ford dealers will reflash the computer to see if something is not set right in it, unless everyone else is getting closer to 21. Thanks for any info.
Asuming that the plugs and wires are all good to excellent shape in your F500, check the EGR system as well, including the Air filter as well, change it youeself, very easy to do, also what I had done to mine, which is a 2007 F500 x leased car with 31K Kilometer, I did oil change and used 100 % Synthetic, I avereged about 29 miles to a gallon of course with Cruise C, drove from Price George to Alberta Ice Fields, not really a flat country, rather very hilly with 4 adults and a 1 year old and carryons that go with the kids, In my opinion that was a awesome mileage for that size of the car and load . This weekend I will be driving from Prince George to Kamloops and see what the F500 does, really enjoying the ride and comfort of this car, no issues yet

I bought a first year five hundred limited AWD CVT. Already had the transmission replaced, for free($7,500), by ford. I live in Dallas and travel 62 miles round-trip every day, hard city driving and I average 19.5 mpg.
