Five Hundred Ford Five Hundred looks like just another conservatively styled family sedan. But peel away the Passat-like sheet metal and you will find a well engineered, highly competent chassis, much of it lifted from the Ford-owned Volvo S80. The Five Hundred sedan will be sharing this new Volvo-derived platform with the Ford Freestyle untapped markets.

Default Roof Antenna Access

Has anyone run an antenna wire from the roof antenna cover to the dash? I was very surprised to find out that Ford does not run the antenna wire from the satellite antenna cover to the dash unless you get the car with the satellite antenna option. I popped off the rear seat overhead light assembly and it looks like you can access a nut that appears to hold the antenna cover down. Didn't want to go too far in taking things apart without being sure it would work. I put in a an aftermarker satellite radio in the car but reception at times is spotty with the antenna inside the car. I don't want to mount the antenns outside so that there is a visible wire. So I plan to mount it inside the roof antenna cover. If anyone has experience in doing this please let me know. 2007 SEL. Thanks!

I did it! Sirius radio reception is now much better with antenna outside. No wires showing as antenna was mounted inside the stock roof antenna cover.

What brand of antenna did you use? I am looking to do the same thing with my '07 Five Hundred Limited.

I don't know. It was just the stock little antenna that came with one of my Sirius radios. I had two radios and I used the smaller of the two antennas so I could fit it flat inside the enclosure.

Oh, I almost forgot! I removed the antenna from the original stock plastic enclosure and just put the guts of the antenna inside the Ford's antenna cover. No way the antenna will fit in there unless you do that.

Thanks, I have one of the smaller one and will give it a go when it's not so hot. One other question, what did you use to reseal the antenna to the roof?

I think there is a rubber seal. I don't recall being concerned about any leaks. Inside the cover there is a mounting block. I had to notch out a part of it to fit my cable through. Not that hard to do if you are handy with tools.
