Ford AerostarOriginally conceived as an answer to the first Chrysler minivans, the Aerostar is an old school rear-drive van that's at its best when it's harnessed for hard work. It can haul--and tow--heavier loads than the front-drive crowd, and gets the job done with a fair degree of comfort and style.
Hi our familly has a 1989 Aerostar and we bought it new. Ever since we have had it it has run great with regular maintanence but recently it started doing something weird. You can start it and go run errands ( blah blah ) for about 20 minutes then while on a side street ( hopefully ) or just sitting in traffic at a stop light the thing just dies. You hit the gas and you get no forward movement at all ( no power ! ) then boom about 15 to 20 seconds later the thing gives up the ghost and dies right there. Our mechanic has taken it for a week driven it around himself to try to get the thing to do as we describe and he just drives it with no problem. We have told him to drive it for 20 minutes to see if it happens and he has mentioned that thus far he has not had the time to drive it 20 minutes....
Has anybody's Aerostar ever done this???
You start it.........it runs great...........20 minutes later.............dead !
I'm not a mechanic but I'd love to have something to tell the mechanic to look for anyway !
