Ford AerostarOriginally conceived as an answer to the first Chrysler minivans, the Aerostar is an old school rear-drive van that's at its best when it's harnessed for hard work. It can haul--and tow--heavier loads than the front-drive crowd, and gets the job done with a fair degree of comfort and style.
i got this old van running i cleaned the spark plugs but its running rough nop power on the hills and the engine shakes tried to time it but no deal... new air filter, could fuel filter be plugged??/ it shuts off too...

Which engine, 4.0 or 3.0? I also agree with mmerlin, change out the fuel filter, it is under the drivers side door next to the frame. When you change the fuel filter, first start the engine and trip the fuel pump cutout switch. The switch is in the passenger side kick panel, just hit it lightly to pop up the red button. This will relieve the pressure in the gas line.

What motor do you have? How long has it sat? Did you pull the spout connector when you tried timing it? IF you don't pull it Your timing will be severely retarded and the comp. won't be able to advance it far enough. IF it has sat for awhile the gas is going bad and the octane points are actually rising and it will be harder for it to burn completely especially under load and you will notice the loss in power. If you haven't filled it up yet, Get the old gas out and refill it with fresh gas, Pull off that filter you just put on as well and get the old crap out of there before you try starting again.

If you have intermittant running problems or a flat spot/buck/dying/cutting out while accelerating.
Do your self a favor and try some dedicated gas
line dryer, Double or even triple dose it, It's cheaper
then throwing parts at a problem that doesn't throw
codes!!
Yeah, engine and year is important information if you want specific help.
Don't be afraid to use too many words to explain what it is or is not doing.
Words are free, and can be helpful.
Assuming that it is newer than '96, take it to autozone, or AAMCO, either place will pull diagnostic codes for free. Others may too, so call around.
Let us know what codes you get.
