Ford Aerostar Originally conceived as an answer to the first Chrysler minivans, the Aerostar is an old school rear-drive van that's at its best when it's harnessed for hard work. It can haul--and tow--heavier loads than the front-drive crowd, and gets the job done with a fair degree of comfort and style.

Default 351 Aerostar

Does anyone have experience putting a V-8 into a minivan? Ever seen it done? Does anyone make Motor mounts/ Headers/ Heavier Struts to accomodate this swap?

I would try installing a 302 instead of a 351 because of the taller deck height on the 351. Try ZEGS or simaller place for mounts but it may be a custom weld job. Regardless,it will be very expensive to accomplish

I've written about this before. I've done a 5.0/302 conversion. It's a LOT of work and the rewards are few. Try changing your spark plugs on the 60 degree V-6. Now imagine a 90 degree V8. And that's just one issue of hundreds.

No, no one makes anything for the swap. You have to fabricate. It's just not a fun project and when you're done you still have an Aerostar. I own a few. Performance vehicles (even with a V8) they most definately are NOT!

Want to do a V8 swap into a mini van? Start with a Chevy Astro. All sorts of parts are available for the swap. You really only need mounts. The Chevy V6 is basically a V8 minus 2 cylinders. You can use the stock transmission from the V6 etc. Much easier and a MUCH nicer finished product. You have to admit an Astro is far superior in quality to an Aerostar.

The V8 sounds like a pain...what about a supercharged 3.8 (I think) out of a T-Bird?

Default 351 Aerostar

Hey guys, I'm new to this forum but I've been around a couple of blocks ....... I just have this one stupid question ....
Why would you want to turn an Aerostar into a pavement pounder? Don't get me wrong, I love mine, it's great for hauling the fam around, getting lots of groceries or hauling my tools to work but I wouldn't think of turning it into a muscle van. These things have a narrow chassis, a relatively high center of gravity, they handle OK for a van but I wouldn't enter mine in any slaloms!

Sorry, maybe I'm just getting too old ....

The 4.0L V6 was a factory option in some of the later year Aerostars......they actually run rather well.

As ASM stated: Aeros are vans; not slalom handling sports vehicles.
