Ford Aerostar Originally conceived as an answer to the first Chrysler minivans, the Aerostar is an old school rear-drive van that's at its best when it's harnessed for hard work. It can haul--and tow--heavier loads than the front-drive crowd, and gets the job done with a fair degree of comfort and style.

Default Well, how much money are you willing to spend?

I know of an Aerostar in my hometown running a 5.0 V-8. If you only want to use it for hauling, and do not care about the bells and whistles, then a 5.0 is very possible, EFI at that. If you do go that route, use a post 86 set up in order to have the mass air unit vice the speed density. You can run the T-5 as well (recommended). There is a company, www.fordfuelinjection.com, that can make you a simple plug n play harness. Good Luck.

I've also done a 5.0 conversion in an Aerostar. It's possible but a total nightmare and not worth the effort. Even the most mundane tasks such as changing spark plugs is a nightmare. EFI....Probably if you want to lose the center of your dash. You also lose what little bit of room you have for your feet with a 5.0 conversion. In a nutshell, a 5.0 conversion is possible but not economically feasible (you still have an Aerostar when you're done) and the nightmare you have to live with will get old very very quickly! Like 97AerostarCargo says...get a tune up. Better yet try changing your own spark plugs on the motor that's in there now. Then imagine one half again as wide in the same space. I rest my case.
