Ford Aerostar Originally conceived as an answer to the first Chrysler minivans, the Aerostar is an old school rear-drive van that's at its best when it's harnessed for hard work. It can haul--and tow--heavier loads than the front-drive crowd, and gets the job done with a fair degree of comfort and style.

Default 4.0L SOHC and manual swap?

Hey, I was wondering if it's possible to put the newer 4.0L SOHC Cologne V6 in the Aerostar with the M5OD-R1HD manual transmission (used by the Ranger) without too much difficulty. Anyone know? Oh yeah and also, are there limited-slip differentials that can be installed?

Just looked under the hood of '01 ranger and under hood of '89 aerostar. Seems to me 4.0 SOHC look wider so I'm not sure about ex. manyfolds.

I have a 07 Mustang with the 4.0 SOHC with a 5sp, it does look wider, would have to measure it out to see if it would clear the sides of the engine bay and the dog house.

I do not know how but it is possible to fit 5.0 V8 in aero. May be with some welding and cutting 4.0 SOHC fits aero too. I try to imagine nightmare of spark plugs change in tinny doghouse of aerostar with 4.0SOHC..... was a real problem with my ranger
