Ford BroncoUntil the mid '90s, the Ford Bronco was famous for being a rough-and-tumble off-road vehicle that had been tackling trails and fording streams since the 1960s. It was also one of the first sport-utility vehicles: a versatile truck then described by Ford as being able to serve as a family sedan, sports roadster, snowplow or farm and civil defense vehicle.
i have a jeep now but was thinking of selling to get a bronco.but i want to be able to switch from 4 wheel to 2 wheel drive from inside the truck.so what years of broncos should i be looking at?thanks for any help!
I am not sure there is one that exsists. They have electronic 4-wheel drive in some, but you still have to lock your hubs. Thats just part of the 4-wheeling xperience.
You also better make sure that you always unlock your hubs after putting it in 2-wheel from 4-wheel. You can do that from the inside but you still have to unlock your hubs from the outside.
yes there is a way to get hubs that can be changed in the truck they are vaccum hubs on 94 or up broncos i believe and all you do is just flipp a switch(theese tend to go in the older bronco like 96) but still work fine
Look for the 87 to 96 Broncos with the Borg Warner 1356 Electric transfer case (Touch Drive).
And still with automatic locking hubs which is becoming rare due to that they stink.
And watch out for 87 & 88's w one-piece locking hubs; have to do major work to replace them
The auto hubs stink; had to repair them twice in my 96, bought it new and maintained the auto hubs like they were jewels, but the things still broke down when we needed them on the beach; Ford wants too much for the repair kit (have to buy both sides) and the replacement auto hub.
BTW broncoman, broncos never used the vac hub set-up.

96 Bronco E4OD, Man Xfer Case & Hubs
i have a 86 model with the stick shift transfer case and it had locking hubs bu they couldnt
stand up to 40 inch tires and 4.88 gears but they worked great with the 33s and stock gears
My auto locking hubs work great, its a 93. They work great so long as you remember to go in reverse once you turn off the 4x4....also make sure you regrease them as much as you can, or else they'll explode like everyone says. Actually looking to go manual locking hubs as their much simpler and less likely to give out in more intense offroading situations.
i have a 1993 bronco with auto locking hubs and cant get them to engage trust me getting out of the truck is no big deal, when you get stuck and the auto hubs refuse to cooperate thats a big deal
