Ford BroncoUntil the mid '90s, the Ford Bronco was famous for being a rough-and-tumble off-road vehicle that had been tackling trails and fording streams since the 1960s. It was also one of the first sport-utility vehicles: a versatile truck then described by Ford as being able to serve as a family sedan, sports roadster, snowplow or farm and civil defense vehicle.
This is my first post to this forum and as most newbies I come with questions that the answers or solution or options will become self apparent once I start the project. I am a couple of weeks away from having time to start so for now I am buying what I know I will need and asking questions of those that might have performed my upcoming tasks.
In 97 I purchased an Eddie Bauer full size Bronco with 75k miles. After eight years and another 70k miles of mostly trouble free miles, normal repairs brakes, tires and shocks, I lent the truck to my eldest daughter. After 18 months, I forced my hand and sought the return of the bronco.
The transmission was rebuilt mid way on my return 500 mile trip towing my other project a 56 210 chevy. Kind of expected the transmission was due after 100k miles. I was impressed with the handling and performance of the bronco after a two year absence. It still felt right.
My to do list includes the following.
1. Front and rear brakes - purchased and ready for install
2. rear window motor - purchased and ready for install
3. rear window latch - ditto ( I just can't get the orignal to move enough to unlatch the back gate.
4. replace passenger side spark plugs - ( Do you really need to remove the inner fender to reach the plugs? Do you remove the drive belt and accessories?
5. horn - no longer works. I jumped the horn and it works. I looked at wiring diagram for fuse - which is hard to locate but I checked all and found none defective. I assume the spring in the steering column is worn. Because of the air bag the manual is of little use. To get the bronco to pass inspection the quick fix is to install a horn button on the column - but my first option is to attempt to fix it right. Any suggestions?
6. drivers seat is broken. That 500 mile return trip was pretty uncomfortable because the seat wouldn't stay upright. And the Frod guys no longer offer replacement seat parts. I assume once I take the seat out that welding the part might be an option - at least I hope so. Any direct replacement seat recommendations?
