Ford Bronco Until the mid '90s, the Ford Bronco was famous for being a rough-and-tumble off-road vehicle that had been tackling trails and fording streams since the 1960s. It was also one of the first sport-utility vehicles: a versatile truck then described by Ford as being able to serve as a family sedan, sports roadster, snowplow or farm and civil defense vehicle.

Default 1984 ford bronco full size cold start problems

I have an 1984 full size that has a problem with the first start of the day. First of all it does not start unless you pump the gas, second of all the engine dies if i go into gear. If I sit for a few minutes and accelerate in neutral, the engine runs fine. I have tried the carb. but no luck and I don't know anyone with enough experience to trust. Please help!

Gee I would have guessed that an '84 would be EFI, not carbed.

When was your last tuneup?

Do you have an electrical or mechanical fuel pump?

If carbed... does it have an electric choke?

You can pull diagnostic codes, and check for vacuum leaks.
Where do you want to start?
