Ford Bronco Until the mid '90s, the Ford Bronco was famous for being a rough-and-tumble off-road vehicle that had been tackling trails and fording streams since the 1960s. It was also one of the first sport-utility vehicles: a versatile truck then described by Ford as being able to serve as a family sedan, sports roadster, snowplow or farm and civil defense vehicle.

Red face sloppy steering wheel

Been like this since we adopted the 93 Bronco. Worse at higher speeds of course. Where do I start. Dont forget, I'm a pre-beginner.

I would start checking the sector shaft where it attaches to the gear box. There is a circular composit ring as you follow the shaft up to the firewall. They becom brittle with age and developes slack.

Excellent place to start. If that is not the problem, have someone turn the steering wheel right to left while you watch- If the whole shaft turns before the pitman arm starts to move, you have a worn steering box. If not check the tie rod ends for excessive play.

My first advice is to put the Bronco on jackstands. Then have a helper watch the front end components as you grab the tire and move it up/down/left/right. If you have worn tie rod ends, ball joints, or drag links the play will be noticed at these locations.

Remember, you can adjust the steering box. There is a flat head adjustment bolt, and a 5/8" nut that locks the bolt down. I've made minute adjustments and noticed a world of difference.
