Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default hanging tach

Hello everyone, I have a 98 contour with what seems to be transmission problems. I had the computer replaced and the butterflies for the intake manifold. It seems they didnt do a damn thing and it cost me $1200.00 dollars. Anyway what the car is doing is when I go past 2 tousand on the tach it wont go into gear but when is comes back down to 2, 2.5 it will go back into gear. People say its the throwout bearing and among other things. If there is anyone out there that can help it would surly help my day. thanks

A throw-out bearing failure usually makes a lot of noise as you engage the clutch since the bearing is being accelerated to engine speed. Your symptoms sound more like the clutch is not fully releasing, or the gearbox is worn. Check the fluid level in the clutch master cylinder that it is correct, and the fluid is not gummed up and dirty (dissolved water in old fluid). If it is, try to bleed the clutch to ensure the hydraulic operation is good. The slave cylinder may also be weak or a mechanical problem with its operation.

Hope this helps.
