Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Question 1998 Contour SVT not starting

Ok, I have a 1998 Contour SVT DOHC 5 speed manual and I went out this morning to start it and it would not start. It is -2 degrees to 15 degrees out side. I have tried jumping, and charging the battery, and nothing. All my lights come on, heater and A/C comes on, the engine trys to turn over but dont. So I am asking what the problem could be? I check the fuel pumps and that is pumping fuel, the feses are good, the battery tested good, the sparks are ok, the car was in 1st gear and clutch pushed in. Could it be the ignition control module? Fuel line frozen? Fuel shut off switch turned on? (where is the reset button?) the alternator? starter? or is it just to cold?

I put premium fuel in it as that is what it takes, I checked the oil to see if it the freezing, it wasnt.
I know you may think I am stupid because I am a woman that cant get her 5 speed car to start, but I have tryed everything I can think of. I even had a guy come look at it but he couldnt get it to start.

I NEED YOUR HELP FAST!!! I GOT TO WORK TOMORROW AND THIS IS MY ONLY CAR!!!!

If you have spark it is most likely not an ignition module (I'm not even sure if these cars were so equipped), unless the spark is orange in color, however if the spark is blue or white you should adequate fire to make the engine run.

Can you hear the fuel pump cycle when you first turn the key to run? Also check in your owners manual about starting the car in cold weather. Some Fords start alot better if you hold the gas pedal to the floor while your cranking the engine. Your owners manual should give you information as to if this is required in cold weather with your paticular model.

Yes I can hear the fuel pump cycle when I first turn the key. The guy that came out to look at my car said that there was a spark but didnt say the color. I have tryed pushes the gas pedal to the floor while turning the key, that didnt help. I even tried pushing the gas pedel before turning the key to get some fuel to the engine and still nothing. I have not tryed the owners manual for cold weather, I will try that.

WHERE IS THE FUEL RESET BUTTON AT?? CAUSE MINE HAS THE FUEL SHUT OFF SYSTEM. How do I know if that has been set/turned on?

MORE HELP PLEASE.......

If you can hear the fuel pump cycling the system has been de-activated by the inertia switch.

Usually the intertia switch is in the trunk.

The injectors aren't firing or the engine doesn't have any compression.
