Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default Lower Engine Air Leak

I have a strange issue with my 96 Contour (2.0 DOHC 4 Cyl.). It sounds like an air leak in the lower part of the engine just behind/above the A/C compressor. This includes a very minor oil leak associated with it. You can hear what sounds like the cylinders forcing air out that alomost has the same sound as a warning spring on break pads except that it changes pitch and frequency with the RPMs.

I have tried to see behind the A/C compressor but the area is pretty well hidden. Can anyone give me an idea what might be there? I have searched manuals and can't see anything. I don't want to spend hours tearing the engine apart to find nothing.

Thanks.

Thanks for the thought, but this car has a Cat-converter. The EGR system is tight (and the noise is coming from the other side of the engine. I'm pretty sure its not a vacuum leak because 1. I can't see any vacuum hose going to the area and 2. I'm getting no trouble codes. For that matter using a realtime scanner the engine seems to be responding perfectly. The whole issue isn't causing any issues currently, just making noise.

Thermactor air pumps are used to feed extra oxygen to the CAT. Of course I don't know if you actually have one.

Make sure the number two spark plug is tight (always use anti-seize and a torque wrench on aluminum heads).
