Need some expertise So I have a 2000 Ford Contour Sport, and the car has spent its life time driving in snowy, salty conditions. I recently have moved cross country to the moderate west coast and appear to be having problems with what I think may be the rear brakes or emergency brake. It usually only happens when the car has been sitting and the temperatures drop to freezing. At first it felt as though my emergency brake was sticking, so I took that apart, and had the cables replaced. Most of the time in warm weather the car has been performing, but when the problem occurs by my back wheels smell hot and if I throw the car in nuetral I stop fairly soon instead of just freely coasting. They are rear disc breaks, are there common problems I should be aware of? I can't afford too much as a grad student and wanted to poke around for free advise. Also I noticed that on one e-brake there is a spring release and the other does not have a spring but when underneath the car in a garge where it is warm both sides appear to release just fine. Could there be water freezing in a line? Is that reasonable? Or is it a problem with my rear brakes? Please help. |
