Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default Trouble with Ford Contour 98 SE

I own a Ford Contour 98 SE (V6) and have recently been experiencing problems with having the engine light appear and stay on. Got an engine diagnostic test performed which indicated that I needed a cataltyic converter. Was referred to a muffler shop. Got the catalytic converter replaced along with a new exhaust manifold . In addition, got a tune up with new spark plugs and wiring, as well as a new fuel fuel filter. The repairs, unfortunatley, did not fix the problem. The check light engine reappeared, and my car drove even worse. Took the car back and had another diagnostic test ran and was told that I needed and ignituon coil to resolve the rough drive. Again, this repair did not completely resolve the problem, the car drove much smoother, but when I got it home and tried to drive it the next day, it could barely start. Took the car back a 3rd time and was told that I needed a new battery. Got the new battery installed. All appeared to be fine, with now a smoother ride, car starts correctly, and the engine check light was now off. Only for just 5 days to elaspe, and the check engine light returns again.

I am at a serious lost right now becasue I have spent over $1600. I do have a warranty on all parts and labor done on the car for one year/12k miles. But in all sincerity, I think I'm being taken for a ride at this muffler shop. I hate to risk losing my warranty by going to another auto shop, and having them work on the car.

I need some expert advice on what else could be the problem for the check engine light remaining on, considering I've had just about every thing imaginable done to the car.

it is hard to tell what can be wrong. but from what you are saing is, you did a major tune up on the car and than some. first off if it has to do with battery usually the battery light comes on. your problem might be related with falty computer or simply you might have an electrycal problem somewhere. the fuel related also where the cylinders arent getting enough fuel or air for that matter. if the master air flow sensor is dirty it will give you the uneven engine work and a lot of times it is hard to start. the bottom line is.. whoever did the work did not properly troubleshoot the car.
