Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.
I have a 1997 for contour v6. I had the transmission rebuild about 2-3000 miles ago. I dont drive it very often. I got in it the other day to drive it and the speedometer didnt work. And the transmission started shifting hard. I was told by the guy that rebuilt the transmission that it is becouse the transmission went in "limp" mode. Becouse the speedometer wasn't working. Well I took off the front wheel and looked around I found a sensor that I am pretty sure is the VSS (vehicle speed sensor). The wires were were pretty bad looking but not broken. So I put some electrical tape around it. I then took off the sensor and cleaned it. But the speedometer still wont work and the transmission still wont shift right.
Well first of all is the guy telling me the truth about it shifting hard becouse the speedometer isnt working. Then my secouse question is should I start with the sensor or the wire. I really think it is the sensor becouse I think the wire would still work. Let me know what you all think. Thanks for the help ahead of time..

The TSS is visible from the wheelwell. The VSS is high on the rear of the case.
The TSS is visible from the wheelwell. The VSS is high on the rear of the case.
Ohh OK The guy that changed rebuild the transmission told me that it was behind the wheel. Am I going to be able to see it or only feel it????
Look up from under the rear. There is leverage clamp with one bolt holding it in.
Best way to get your hands on it is to remove the airbox and reach down under the brake booster. If the wires are loosing their insulation you will have to clean and seperate them and then reinsulate.
