Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default unknown problem

I have a 1998 contour 4cyln, The problem I have with the car is it misses/bucks most of the time, it is very slight but I can still notice it. I Checked the oil the other day and it was low so I added 1 1/2 qts right after that I went for a drive and had to return home because it was smoking very very bad. I drained the 1 1/2 qt of oil I had added out and it stoped smoking. so now I have to run it low on oil to keep it from smoking, Also I added some c-fome one day to the oil while the car was running and it killed the motor, I had a very hard time getting it started after that, but then it straighten up, but still has a mis/bucking. any ideas?

What color was the smoke? Blue-tinted smoke generally indicates burning oil, white is something else burning, belts, hoses, water, etc. If your check engine light is on the nice folks at autozone/advanced auto parts will run diagnostics for free.

When it bucks does it feel like the transmission slipping? You can hear it revving up but the car isn't responding to the gas and then jerks back? Or is it more of just a constant jerking?

I put new plugs and wires on it a few months ago, The smoke is white in color, But I'm postive it is oil smoke because it only smokes when I put the proper amount of oil in it. The miss/jerking feels more like it is starving for gas or a dead plug, But I dont think it is neather.

I suggest you find annoyher Contour owner and compare dipsticks.

No, that's not a dirty joke!

How old is the timing belt?
Does this engine have VCT?

Has the oil been changed since you put the Seafoam in it?
Also, Seafoam can foul out the plugs. I'd suggest you change the plugs again and if you haven't already, change the oil and filter. Fill the oil to proper spec. and report back.

Do you have a CEL?
