Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Unhappy 98 Contour Transmission Sips and jerks

I have a 98 Contour GL Sport 4 Cyl zetec. The car was given to me it is all in tact cosmeticly looks new. 109k Miles transmission when overdrive tries to kick in it starts to rev and slip then hard jerks feel like getting read ended.. It starts out fine when taking off but at the sign of a small incline it starts the same routine all over again.

Any Suggestions? looking to keep for fuel economy ..

Thanks

Does it only do it on a small incline? or does it have a mind of it's own and acts up whenever? Check out the other thread updated today on transmission range sensor, i think u may find your answer.

Thanks a bunch. the part was 50 bucks and a whopping 3 minutes to switch out.

Instead of just guessing what the problem is, why not pull the Diagnostic Trouble Codes (free at most large auto parts stores) and see what they say.

(Trans range sensor is a common failure.)

doesn't the check engine light need to be on for that?, mine is not on, and it does work.

Not necessarily. The PCM does not always light the CEL, especially on non-emission related items.
