Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Smile 95 Contour SE trans slipping

Ok so here's what I did. Installed a CD4E shift kit. Which did not help. So I checked the computer for codes with the EEC-IV scanner. Found A 668 code which is the transmisson range sensor also known as a "neutral safety switch" at the Auto Zone. Can also be called the "Manual Lever Position Sensor" by Ford. So I installed the range sensor in about 20 minutes and what do ya know the tranny is good as the day it was made. Shifts like a dream. So if any body has a 95 contour with a CD4E (Probably any CD4E) which is not shifting correctly you may want to check the check engine codes with a EEC-IV scanner or if you don't have one and you have a check engine light you might just want to go ahead and change the range sensor. It's right on top of the tranny just below the left side of the battery bracket. It's down there kinda deep. It has two bolts and an electrical connector. Pretty easy to do and fairly cheap. About $40.00 at the Auto Zone. Let me know if you have any questions I'd be glad to help.

P.S. I was told by two trans. shops that I needed a rebuilt trans.
Sometimes it pays to persevere.
Have a good one

Good work Dan.

Another good thing to do, change the trans fluid. Not big on the "flush" type of change though. A drain and fill works just fine. I prefer the Ford honey. A bit expensive but that's what is recommended and will keep your trans happy.

Thanks, but what I didn't say was that the valve body was rebuilt previously. When they did it they drilled one of the holes in the accumulator plate in the wrong place. So I went ahead and drilled the right hole to the right diameter. The trans shifts great but hesisatates when you first shift into drive. Just for a second or two. Other than that the car runs great. Think honey may help?
