Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default Help '96 Contour

I just bought my contour this past July and the guy I bought it from told me the check engine light was on because it had close to 100,000 miles on it. Now the check engine light flashes and the car stalls and often dies at stop lights or idles irregularly when stopped. I've noticed that when it is idling like that the dash lights and radio tuner will dim. Any one have a clue what could be wrong?

Usually the engine light is signaled when there are emission problems. It could be that one of your sensors is going bad, like the Mass airflow sensor or O2 sensor in the Manifold and exhaust line. If they don't give the computer proper readings then you will not get the proper air/fuel mixture to make the engine operate correctly "irregular idling". The dimming can have a lot to do with the engine not rotating efficniently enough to operate the alternator. Definitley have your Engine Light diagnosed at a place like Advanced Autoparts.
