Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.
I have a 1998 ford contour that I recently purchased off of a neighbor of mine. He had just recently had the car in the shop for a tune up. He got the normal tune-up, and a new radiator, and also a new ac compressor. Just after all of this was done the car lost all of the forward gears. Iwas just wondering if there is a sensor or something that would cause it to do this but not affect the reverse gear at all. Thanks
It could be that your seals inside your transmission are bad. Have you had your transmission fluid drained and re-filled and your filter changed? I'm not saying that that would fix your problem but it's a start. Also your gears are a set of gears called planetary gearset. They are controlled by hydraulic lines. Your gear ratios are a system of brake bands and clutches, which are actuated by hydraulic servos controlled by the valve body which is the control center for the system. The valve body is controlled from a main pump that is conected to the transmssions input. The pump is regulated and runs a network of spring-loaded valves, check balls and servo pistons. There can be many components involved... but it almost does sound like an regulation problem between the range selector and or throttle valve ( they control the hydraulic flow to activate different gears in the planetary gearset). Haggard, it's difficult to really tell you what it could be, but i'm hoping that this will get you closer to the problem. Remember to check to see if you have enough fluid in your transmission.
Sounds like my contour it's driveable but it jerks going down the road and it's hard to get going somtimes I gotta press the gas alote just to get going. I've got a 97 Contour GL Sport. The Guy I got it from said he wrecked it in a ditch and the frount end was bobing in the water. after that the transmission or something keeps sliping. It has poor accaleration, and when it hits 50 it down shifts and the trans feels like it's about to fall out..any help with my problume
