Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default blower motor problem on 99 contour

Having problems with a 99 ford contour blower motor. At first blower only worked on high, couple weeks later didn't work at all. Checked resistor and it was bad and replaced. Worked fine for a couple of weeks and then quit again. As I was going threw the system checking for power unpluged relay and plugged back in and the blower works fine again. Now during this whole process the lights(interior and exterior) have stated pulsing all the time. Any hints on what direction to go next??

Sounds like you are having issues with your relays.
Either power to the relay distribution box, or grounds.

Check your connections, both power and grounds, make a note of them all, and if the problem isn't fixed, let us know which ones you did. Perhaps someone will be able to look up in a wiring diagram and see if you missed any that are important.

I was checking for power at the 2 pin on the relay when I had it out and the was no power and then I unplugged the blower motor and the resistor. When I plugged it all back in is when everything started working. I've ran the blower for a couple hours and can't get it to quit again.

So it sounds like you have intermittant power or grounds like I said. So right now you have a connection, next time you hit a bump, you might not have a connection anymore.

What about the lights that were flashing on and off? The exteriror lights are on a relay.

That's my definition of success...

Let's hope that whatever intermittent connection you had is gone. Otherwise Joe is right. You might end up stranded.

Of course the big problem with an intermittent connection is that you can't very well find it when it's working.

*NOTE* What's up with the quote feature? I tried and tried to get it to work right, so don't blame me for it looking stupid. lol

It sounds like the terminals to me. Clean them on the relays and do what you can on the socket. I've seen many with corrosion.

I have the exact same problem now for a few thousand miles. I couldn't figure out what was wrong, THANK YOU for posting your problem and solutions here. I'll check my relay also, and really hope this fixes it.

I had previously checked every single fuse and been behind the dashboard a little bit, but not luck.

This relay is in the passenger footwell, up against the firewall right? That's the only thing I've read so far about where this might possibly be located. Do you have a picture or clarification on where the blower motor relay is? Manual of course is no help %)
