Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default 98 Ford Contour brake light/turn signal/shift lock problem

A brake light bulb burned out, but the bulb was stuck. Didn't disconnect the battery trying to get it out, and blew the fuses. Also, then the car wouldn't go into gear. A kind local shop mechanic said the blown fuses probably also caused gear shift lock, and replacing them would fix it. So, replaced the brake lamp fuses, car went into gear, no problem. But, the turn signals and hazard lights wouldn't work. So, found a blown fuse in the power distribution box which made the hazard lights come on, but it immediately blew again, also blew the brake light fuses again, and the car wouldn't go into gear again. Replaced the brake light fuses again, but the car still won't go into gear, and still no turn signals or hazard lights. Help?

Having a similar problem with a 98 Contour GL 2.0 automatic. Stuck in park and heater would not work. After a while of fiddleing around the heater started to work and the shift lever was not stuck anymore. A little later the heater quit and the turn signals would not work. After a half an hour in the driveway I looked it over and could not find anything that did not work and it would shift
