1998 contour cooling issue

i own a 1998 contour that has had in the last few months a new temp sensor and a new fan assenblt installed. it seems my car is running hot and that the fans will only come on when the AC is running but will not come on when they are suppose to. any help would be greatfull. email or post

have a 95 Contour doing the same thing.. FAN only works with the AC on.. Did you find the resolution to the problem?

If you have your interior fan on defrost, your AC compressor is running. When you don't require AC or to remove fog from the windsheild keep the interior fan on another setting (ie. vent, floor etc.). It might be as simple as a burnt out (overheated) relay. Installing a lower temp thermostat should help (180F vs. 195F (stock)). Your best bet is to get it diagnosed at a nearby shop. Most shops, that aren't dealers, generally won't charge for the diagnosis.
