Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. I have a '98 Conour GL with 2.0/auto. We're experiencing a moan/groan sound and a shudder in the steering wheel on return from RH steer in cases where we are backing out of parking with wheels turned to the right, stopping, and turning wheel back to the left to straighten the vehicle. We experience no other steering problems except under those conditions. The sound that's produced is almost like a "chatter", though there is no cavitation noise from the pump. I've heard/seen that there is a TSB out on this subject, but was unable to find it in Mitchell under my vehicle. Does anyone have any idea what might be occurring? P/S pump level is up and fluid looks good, no belt squeel, and alignment and steering components appear to be in good shape.
