Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default '98 SVT Electrical Problems

The electronics in my car have officially gone haywire.

Let me list my problems and hopefully I can get some productive feedback:
1. Right side speakers are not functioning. (left side is)
2. Dashboard lights/Tail lights are not functioning. (went out at same time, brakelights/headlights work)
3. Rear window defrost is not functioning.
4. Passenger side window is not functioning.
5. Numerical adjustment windshield wiper is not functioning. (high speed works)
6. Passenger/Driver foot lights function periodically.

I've gone over the fusebox diagrams and can't begin to believe my fuses are the only problem. Could it possibly be my power distributor is arching?

Please give me your ideas. They are appreciated. Thanks

This a DIY fix or something I should have a mechanic look at? Where can I look to be certain?

I have had some similar problems and still chasing the some of the problems, it seems that once I isolate the problem I also end up replacing the relays and or fuses. Finding a bad ground can really be a nusicance.

I agree with Mark sounds like a bad ground.
First place I would look is under the dash lip near the passenger courtesy light. Often your'll find oen there. If there isn't one there, I'd pull the passenger side kick panel and look for one there.

Thanks for the help. I went through my potentially problematic fuses and removed/checked them and some of my electronics kicked back into operation. My windshield wipers now function on all settings, and my rear window defrost is working.

My biggest problem, taillights and dash illumation, are still not functional though, maybe one more run through of the fuses will help.
