Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default Wheel Bearings?

I have a '99 with the 2.5 engine. I get a very loud rumble (not grinding) after 40 mph. No real grinding noise when I'm making a turn, but occasionally I "think" I hear one. About 70K on the car.

I've changed the tires recently due to wear (but it made the noise before that), and changed my rotors and pads (fronts only, drums on back). I'm guessing this is wheel bearings. If anyone thinks differently, please tell me.

My real question is that I'm a Saturday mechanic with a good knowledge of my cars and can follow directions extremely well. Is this the type of job I should attempt on my own or just say screw it, fork over the dough at my local mechanic/dealership and let them go at it? Guessing it's a fairly expensive job and not rich so if I can do it myself, I'd prefer that. I'm also aware that I'll probably have to have someone press fit the new bearings for me. Also, beyond Chilton's (looks fairly difficult), anyone know a good step-by-step for doing this? Thank you to all in advance.
