Humming noise ceases when driving. Hello, thanks for reading this. I have a Contour, 99, SE 2.5L Duratech.
I am very much interested in vehicles but still know too little.
My car has been making a humming noise since I'd bought it. It seems to be coming from the front drive side/or front middle.
This substantial noise sounds like someone actually humming, the F note, consistently, just to give you a clue.
Usually, it would start immediately, after putting the car into either reverse or drive. After I would apply the gas, it would stop.
Today, Driving down the road at 1-2 rpms, down a hill, @ 50 mph, the noise starting again, it seemed quieter and nearer the far front of the car (not sure if I applied brakes or not before the humming noise began). But I applied a lil' gas and it ebbed away. THEN, About 5 minutes later the humming noise began again, after having had applied the brakes and rounding a corner. The noise seemed quieter and nearer the far front of the car. As soon as I applied some gas, the noise stopped, once again.
I was running my air conditioner today, also. And in the past when the car would hum, DURING THE ACT OF DRIVING, I was running the air conditioner also.
But the humming USUALLY only occurs, when I first put my car into reverse or drive from park and would stop when i apply gas. (Air conditioner NOT on).
DOes anyone have any ideas on this? I'd be indebted. |
