Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.
Haha, the old recalled but never fixed range sensor...You got armorall or something on it huh? Check with your dealer, see if they'll be kind enough to honor the recall on said part.

The range sensor is located just to the left of the battery on the automatic transaxle. It is connected with 2 bolts. To test it, you need to take it to someone who has a updated scanner. I have the exact same problem with my 2000 contour. Also, when it gets real bad, the O/D light will flash. Most auto parts stores don't carry the sensor, so you'll have to go directly through Ford or go to a salvage yard. Hope this helps.
Can anyone help me with where and how to fix this problem...the dealership wants to charge me $600 to fix but if its possible to do myself than would rather save the money...its nowhere to be found in the Haynes manual of where or how to fix, or if its even hard to get to. If anyone could help me with this or if you know of some site with a diagram or steps on how to do this that would be great! Please help! Thanks in advance!
Piece of cake to change. Just undo the bolts and slide it out, slide the new one in and connect the wires. The I-4 is easy to do...the V6 is a little harder.
