Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default 1995 Automatic Contour LX problems

I have an issue that keeps on getting worse, and nobody else seems to have the EXACT same problem I do.

The contour started having problems about 6 months ago when getting in to gear from a stop. I would give it gas, but it wouldn't get in to gear, thus not moving. This wasn't too much of an issue, so I've been ignoring it.

Another one is at low velocities, the car's engine would sometimes stop. For example, I would come to a stop sign, and the engine would seem to die out. I have to restart the car to get moving. This would also sometimes happen when coming out of a parked position.

The last and the most serious issue is not starting. When I turn the key to start the car, I can hear the starter (I think) trying to get the engine going, but it doesn't get to the engine. This has happened a few times, and each time, if I leave it sitting for a few days, it would be able to start again. However, the time it needs to sit keeps getting longer and longer. Right now, it's been a week without a successful ignition. Here's what always happens:
The car would be driving fine for a while
At one point, I'll get in to the car and start the car
The engine will start, but after a second, it dies out
I try again to restart it, but this time, the issue described above happens, and I'm unable to start it.

Has anyone had similar issues? Does anyone know what's going on? I'm not very motor-savvy, so I'm kind of lost. Any input or opinion is appreciated. Thanks in advance.
