Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Angry 1995 Ford Contour Collant light

Yeah i have a 1995 contour lx V6 and the collant light comes on somtimes and also the temp gauge is reading between the m and the a or somtimes the a and the l on the normal temp gauge. does anyone have any idea on what it could be. also i drove for like 30 miles on day and i parked it and let it sit for like and hour came back to it and tried to start it and it would not crank over. then i let it sit over night and i tried it againa nd it started. It hasent happend since then and that was like 2 months ago. i was jsut wondering if that collant light could have somthing to do with my problems.

The coolant level sensor on those cars is finicky sometimes... make sure your coolant level is about 1/2- 1 inch above the MAX fill line and it should be fine... as for the temperature thing... mine does that all the time, and I'm never concerned unless it gets past the A. Make sure you have coolant and don't have any leaks. Also you might want to get your pressure cap tested or just replace the cap.

A coolant flush is a good idea as well if you haven't had one of those done in a while. This is all before you do something drastic like replacing the water pump or radiator or something. Hope this helps!

I really don't know much about these contours, but I have just purchased one of my own.. I just recently had the same issue with the thermostat, and it ended being the water pump.. Apparently there is an issue with the plastic propellers on the contours cracking, and causing the veh to overheat... As for the coolant light what delta115 said is the same thing I was told by the mechanic.. Im guessing it usually goes off after a couple of minutes... Mine still comes on like that, so I don't think it is related to the water pump.. Good Luck...

As stated the coolant sensors on these cars are a real pain. Fill the res 1/2" above max and you should be fine.
