Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default 1995 Contour GL

Long time reader, first time poster.

I may end up buying a Contour this week, and about the only problem that I can see is that the speedometer, odometer and cruise control do not work.

My question is this: is it possible that it could just be a fuse, or could it be something else?

TIA for your help,

Ivan

the instrument clusters are a known problem in the contours. also head gaskets in the 2.0l zetec. i own one and i would advise against contours. they are nothing but problems.

How many miles on the car? Also you didn't specify engine\transmission. Assuming it's a Zetec, but there are some odd configurations out there. Speedo\Odo could be caused by the VSS (Variable Speed Sensor)

I had a 95 GL 2.0L with the MTX, very reliable car, even at 140K I never hesitated to take it on long trips, and my SVT hasn't let me down either.

Check out The Contour Enthusiasts Group : CEG for any information you will need about the car. Many experts there.

It most likely is the VSS. It is about a $35 part that mounts to the transmission and has a electrical connector on it. Easy to change.
