96 Contour Fan Switch stuck

Hi All,

My Girlfriend owns a 96 Contour that has been pretty good since day 1. Minor repairs but all in all a good little car.


Problem:
The Fan switch on the console is stuck in the highest blowing setting. It is physically impossible to move the the knob. There is very little air flow.

Please read below.

History:
The switch started acting up in the Summer. The knob was able to be turned to the 1,2,3.4th position to get more or less air. However in the 3rd and 4th position the air did not blow at a high level. You could hear and feel a little air on the 3rd and 4th setting. 1 & 2 actually created more airflow (the appropriate amount). 3 & 4 would respond with the appropriate amount of air when I jiggled the knob in those respective positions. However after the jiggling the fan knob is now stuck in the 4th position with little air flow.

Solution:
I am off to buy a new fan switch right now.


If someone could please explain to me how to remove the cover or diagnose a bigger problem please feel free to respond.
