car died while running.....HELP!

I bought a 1995 contour back in Aug of 06. I believe it is a 2.0 V4 SE. Has a bunch of miles on it. Ran ok at first. Then started getting funny. It was hesitating when I stepped on the gas and not responding to well when it was cold, wet, or just when i needed to be somewhere.

The CEL light came on after about a month. Nothing seemed wrong but i had someone look at it. They said nothing was wrong, but i might want to check out getting the mass airflow sensor. Never did but it seemed ok. The CEL light was coming on and off. Sometimes on sometimes off. It would come on after beeing driven for a long time 30-40 mins or on the express-way. When it was started after sitting for say 30 mins the light would be off.

While my b/f was driving it about 3 weeks ago it just died on him. No noise no smoke no nothing. He said when he tried to start it it seemed like it wanted to turn over but did not. Gave it the whole work up. New plugs, wires and filters. Thought that it just needed a tune-up. Now it will not even really turn over at all. It seems worse than when we started. His buddy says its throwing all kinds of codes that are not right. Cause some of them are things he has fixed. Any ideas?? Please help! I am starting to hate this car and the rental is getting expensive!!!! PLEASE!
