Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Default 99 contour suspension boom noise

recently my 99 V6 started making a new noise - kind of a "booming" noise which sounds like it's coming from the left-hand front wheel - only around 40 mph. Slower is fine and faster is quiet - onlly makes the noise between maybe 35 and 45 mph. The noise is louder when on a curve and steering slightly to the right. Shifting the trans into neutral and letting the engine drop to idle does not change the noise. Jacking up the car - the wheel seems to turn smoothly and is not at all loose. any ideas? Thanks!

I've had an annoying rattle from this same location on 2 contours - but it's not a boom as you mentioned. My noise was from a worn sway bar bracket. not too expensive to fix ($45 at my local shop) but a bugger to get to the bolts. I've had problems with the CV joints that do make a loud clang when they slip. Replacing the axle did the trick.

Sounds like your diff is going out. Check your trans fluid. BTW is it a manual or an auto?
