Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.
I have a 98 ford contour gl 4liter engine, Here's my problem as you know this car has what's called high mount brake lights and when you press on the brake the two bottom light's will light up also but in my case only the high mount's will light but not the bottom two but the blinkers will work and when i turn on the lights they will work but not when i touch the brakes. have change the switches that you connect the bulb holder and checked the fuse and they seem to work just fine so i am wondering if any one else has had this problem and if so how did you solve it
just got a '98 contour sport a month ago, and all of a sudden have brake light problems as well. .my problem is a little different, the 3rd brake light on the spoiler works, but none of the other brake lights do. i didn't know about the high mount brake lights, to be honest. The tail lights come on when the headlights are turned on.
hope somebody can help

(I fixed it and as it turned out in wasn't the ground wire at all there wasn't any power coming from the brake switch so i had to put in a line fuse(leading from the brake switch and by the way it was the orange and white wire) and add wire from where the high mount to the bottom brake lights and everything is working just fine. )
The above is what i posted in another group but you could do the same but what i would do first is go to a auto store and get a tester if you don't already have one and test everything from the brake switch to the bulbs in back but you may have the same problem that i have where you would then have to use the advice above but if you don't know how to do this then try and get someone who does.
