Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.
The daughter was driving to a friend's house and it died on the expressway. She said she was going about 55 and it just quit.
The car is a 1999 Contour with the 2.0 L Zetec engine. I had it towed home and removed the top section of the timing belt cover. Sure enough, the belt is shredded.
Questions:
1. Is this an interference engine?
2. If so, how much and what kind of damage can I expect to find?
3. I intend to do the repairs myself (Can't be any worse than a Honda B18 Vetec!). Any words of advice??

Its pretty easy. Get a gates timing belt kit. Install all the parts. Its about a days job if you have never done it before. I did one on a 99 MTX not to long ago. Hardest part to do is the VCT parts of the engine and loosening the cams.
