Ford Contour Ford Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.

Question transmission fluid change?

got a 97 contour with 181,000 miles, on two occasions o/d light flashed off and on. turned off igintion and it quit when restarted???? second time it was jerking into gear, but that too quit. Should I change transmission fluids, didn't think you were suppose to mess with em? Got a vibration while running too, is that possibly from rear motor mount that I think needs replacing?

You should have changed the transmission fluid three times by now.

This problem is often in the lock-up torque converter so I doubt the fluid is responsible.

Unhappy next

last year took for inspection and had to buy new struts, needed to have brake leak behind driver side rear tire fixed, car overheated and warped head so had to be shaved and redone. new water pump (twice) front wheel bearing went bad, now o/d light is flashing off and on. check engine light has been on for appx. 8 years(got tired of looking for reason) heater fan only puts out on hight. had headlight problem, cut them on and no back lights, somehow that went away???? replaced a part and then replaced with old part HUH??? replaced motor mounts and those headlights, have had em polished twice, think I am gonna have to buy new ones, but God I love my Contour, roomy and rides so good so hate to see it falling apart.
