Ford ContourFord Contour combines sporty driving dynamics with the comfort and practicality of a four-door sedan. It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. Contour SVT pours on the coal with a higher output version of the Duratec V6, a sports suspension and bigger brakes.
My son bought a 2000 Contour a couple of months ago. The car has been great with the exception of a tranny leak which looks like its seaping through where the case splits. So we tightend up the case and will watch it. The new issue is, now that the mornings are getting colder, there is this LOUD hum. The previous owner said she made several attempts to fix it but nobody cout figure it out. Once the motor warms up it goes away. It will also subside if you increase the RPM.
Has anyone else ever had this problem or heard of someone having this problem that was succesful in fixing it?
I also have a 2000 Ford Contour that does the same thing. Once the temperature outside reaches around 60 degrees or below, it will make this "moosing" or "fog horn" sound until the car's warmed up.
I've tried removing the IAC sensor and cleaning that, but it didn't work.
I've had several people tell me to replace the IAC valve and air valve tube assembly (to a shorter tube), or throttle hang fix.
Hope this helps! I will let you know once my mechanic fixes mine!

Sorry to hear that you are having the same problem, but glad to hear that this isn't the only car out there with this problem. My sister inlaw was the previous owner of this car and after many failed attempts to correct it, her mechanic told her it was in the power steering system. I haven't spent any time looking for it but there is a filter in the power steering system that makes me curious. If he is sitting in the driveway and turns the steering wheel the noise goes away. Please write back when you have your work done. Thanks for the reply.
My car also has the problem of the loud "hum". It did it one morning in the summer and didnt do it again for 3 months until it started getting cold. I took it to my mechanic and it said he thinks its the falp inside of the air intake getting stuck. The jerks i bought it from had supposedly replaced the vacuum line 2 months ago, and it stopped doing this for about a month. Turns out they didnt, and the vacuum hose crumbled in my hand yesterday. When you start the car it revs real high, as the loud hum comes on. When it first started doing this it only did it until the car was warm, and shut off if you accelarted. It now does it all the time and i have a car ive had for 6 months I cant drive. Im gettin about 260k out of $50 worth of gas.
