It doesn't have the rear-seat space of a Taurus, but Ford improved rear legroom and revised the styling. When I first start this car on cold mornings and release the clutch the rpm's go down about 400 and when pushed back in ( not in gear any of these times) it goes back up. The clutch was replaced about 3000 miles ago. Also have trouble shifting into second when cold. After the car is driven a mile or so all the above mentioned problems go away. Anybody have any ideas as to what the cause of this is?
Ford has a new lube for this transmission but it is quite expensive.
I recommend you replace the gearbox lube with Redline MTL, about 2 1/2 quarts.
Improvement should be immediate.
your bent fork could be making it hard to shift. there could be moister on the fork and it has froze, and once the car warms up the ice melts so the problem goes away.
