Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Question Draining Battery

I recently bought a 1990 Crown Victoria LTD. 302 V-8 5.0 L. Great deal, nice car, but for some reason it drains the battery over night. Even a new battery. I have looked and disconnected anything I can think of that would drain the battery. E.G. glove box, trunk, hood lights. This car is fully loaded, I have replaced the Starter Celinoid , Starter , and battery, looking at the altinator now Trying to trouble shoot the problems are starting to be a chore. If anyone knows or has suggestions for me I would greatly appreciate your feed back.

Thank You

I'd put an ammeter on between the battery and positive batter cable and observe the amount of current, then disconnect the altenator (should have a big plug on the top of it), and take a look at your ammeter now.

With all the car's electrical systems switched off and doors closed and the negative cable disconnected from the terminal and the digital ameter connecting neg cable to the battery neg post the reading should be somewhere around 200 miliamps. It will be much more if the diode has failed in the alternator. After about 30 mins the computer should put the systems that are not required to sleep (airbags, etc). The draw should drop to about 40 miliamps. If this does not happen then you disconnect the alternator as advised earlier. If this does not make a major drop then start pulling fuses for the main circuits. You should find the circuit that is causing the draw this way.

Once you know the circuit then you trace the components on the circuit using owners manual and circuit diagrams, and disconnect one by one until the draw is brought under control.

Hope this helps.
