Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Exclamation Transmission fluid change

I have two Crown Vic P71s (96 & 99) and a 95 Merc Marquis--any tips on changing transmission fluid.

Intend on draining torque convertors if they have a plug in them. If not, then I will try to flush using the trans lines to the radiator.

Not sure of fluid types. The P71 CVs do not have owener's manuals.

Here is some info on type of trans fluid (Mercon V) and quantity ( about 13.9 quarts):
UBB Error - Crownvic.net
Here is how to change the trans fluid/filter:
UBB Error - Crownvic.net
Here is where you can get owner manuals for your '96 and '99, although may not cover the police package changes:

Hope this helps.

I would suggest getting it flushed and filled at a place such as Tires plus or An auto specialist place.

One more thing that you might want to consider. After changing your fluid, draining your converter, and flushing the lines and cooling tank, put a bottle of "friction modifier" in it.
It'll help tremendously. Stops the "shudder" that sometimes occur and helps your clutches last longer.
