Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Default Replacing 1983 Radio

Hello everyone,

I have a question about replacing the radio in my 1983 LTD Crown Victoria. I recently got a used Sony Xplosion CDX MP40 stereo and am trying to replace the stock Ford radio. Unfortunately the original owner not only decided to get the analogue clock, but same with the radio.

I have 8 wires which were connected to the radio. I was able to replace the old radio with the new one, except for one small issue. The front left speaker doesn't seem to work anymore. I was able to find the wiring guide for new stereo, but i can't find any for the ford wiring.

If anyone has an suggestions on which wires control what on the car, or have a link to a guide. I was only able to find digital radio for the 1983, or a similar guide for a 1985.

Thanks in advance.

Howdy!

I replaced the radio in my 1981 Thunderbird with a Kenwood about 5 years ago, or so. That Thunderbird also had an analog radio with an 8-track player. So I had the big knobs to pull off and the big rubber wiring harness coming out of the dashboard asd well.

I bought my Kenwood from Crutchfield Crutchfield: Car Audio, Home Theater, Speakers, LCD TV, Plasma TV and they were incredibly helpful with everything. I got the wiring harness to mate with the big rubber connector coming out of the dashboard from them as well, so I didn't have to cut into the car's wiring.

In order to check the wiring, however, I went to an Auto Zone and got a Haynes manual, but before I bought it, I made sure it included wiring schematics in the back of the book. It'll show in that book the colors of all the wires going to each speaker.

I wish I could be of more help to ya more immediately, however my books are back home, and I'm off to college at the moment.

Good luck!
