Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Question 1994 C.Vic. odometer quit working, why??

I have a 1994 crown vic and the odometer quit working. I read a couple T-bird replies about a gear failure in the speedo head I guess. Wondering if this is the problem on 94 crown vics also, anyone know. Or is it an electronic issue. Has anyone ran into this? 1994 P71, 145,000 miles, ex-fire dept. car runs great. Any help is appreciated, mike

My guess it may be a fuse. Have them checked out to see if there's any shorts.

Same deal on my '93 LX. The dealer gave me an estimate of $700 to fix the odo. Plus I have to leave the car with them for a couple weeks while they send the speedo unit somewhere. Plus I have to sign an affidavit and have it notorized that I didn't mess with the mileage on the odo. True story.

I laughed at the service manager and told him the car wasn't worth $700. Anyway I'm good until the next smog inspection and then they'll catch me. Zero miles in 2 years does not compute.

Everything else works -- speedo, cruise, no ABS on my '93.

Rumor is I can pull the cluster and send it to a speedo shop and they'll fix it for way less than $700.

Try contacting these guys: Nationwide Car Radio Repair and Speedometer Repair

They're good guys, and know what they're doing. Adam is one of the techs there, and will help you out over the phone and advise you what it might be. The owner is an interesting guy, too....he makes a lot of the parts he needs to repair old instrument clusters, when the parts aren't available. I needed a small gear to fix my 92 odometer, and got the part from them. When I reassembled it, there was another issue with it which they fixed for me at a very reasonable price.

it is a common problem with 92 to 94 vics sometimes its the gear sometimes its the electrical generator that turns the odometer either way its not something you should try to fix because its not easy problem to fix
