2003 Crown Victoria Sport

Howdy y'all! I'm glad to have stumbled upon another Ford forum. I have been a member of Crownvic.net for approx 6 years and post semi-regularly...over 1000 posts since registration which really isn't all that much.

I have 2 Crown Vic Sports: a 2003 with 134K miles and an 06 with almost 30K. I love 'em both! My daughter currently uses the 03 for college when she's in college. It's home for the summer for a repair job the subject of which this post is concerned.

I need to replace the heater core blend door motor. I have a CV Chilton repair manual which describes what appears to be a fairly strait-forward task. However, the manual gives no info about removing my center console. I am assuming and it looks as though the console will have to come out in order to drop the dash.

Can anyone guide me to some information in this regard? Thanks!!

I to belong to CVN site as well. But I would rather take this repair to a qualfied tech, before u tackle this time and consuming task. I believe u do not have to take the console out. U can always call the dealer before u take the plunge, they will be more than happy to walk u through it. Good luck! and keep us posted.

Well I accomplished it yesterday. I spent 3 hours Wednesday night and 12 hours yesterday. About 6 of those hours were spent trying to get at the blend door motor screw against the firewall. BTW, only 3 of rhe 4 mounting screws were installed. The difficult one wasn't even completely tight! Great job, FORD!!

Anyway, the dash removel and installation was not that bad. My only access to the motor was over the top of the dash and thru the gap on the right side. Yes, my arms and fingers are scratched up. I could pull out the dash only as far as the cables would allow me. The console shifter had to be dismounted and moved back.

To gain access to that one screw, I had to remove the bulkhead insulation and go through an opening in the metal directly above the screw and a small verticle opening above that. It was a royal pain, but the AC and heater work like a champ!!!!!!!!

The cleanup including cleaning all the sweat off the seats and other pieces occurred at about midnight.

I have posted 2 pics on CVN. This type work is probably no big thing to most of you Ford folks, but to a none-mechanic geek such as I, it's momumental and I hope to never have to do it again!!!
