Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Question Crown victoria manual tranny swap

Hi evrybody!, yep i'm brand new to this web site, i first tried to register on crownvic.net, but was just to complicate, so i register here... :P

I'm 17 years old and i just bought my first car, a 2001 crown vic police pak, I LOVE IT. I only drove it for 15k miles, but i figured out that the original tranny was pretty about to break. So, i'm planning to change it in a near future, but i was asking my self could i give a manual one...!?!

So here my question, is it possible to convert my car in a manual one...
I've already read a litle about the qestion, and i fugured out that some people already did it before like the bondurant school ( Vic Pictures ), but i still couldn't really now how should i do it... i've already read that if i would find a car with the same engine (4.6l sohc 16-valve v8) with a manual tranny that i could just take the tranny, electronic and all others piece from it and put it in my vic... but well it wasn't looking like a good source, a later found that ford mustang and some expedition was shearing the same engine a tremec t-45.

So could this could be done without too much problem and well what would have exactly have to do etc etc. What big things should i considere to be sure that i make the right choice.. thx you and by the i'm from quebec, canada, so usally i speak french so do not complian too much about my english :P (verb tense, i got particualry a lot of trouble with them.)

You really need to go back and search or register on crownvic.net, this procedure has been detailed many times on that site. For the most recent, from a guy in Mirabel Quebec, search on "The 5 speed swap done". For serious performance and technical questions on Crown Vics and Grand Marquis they have the most. I've been looking at various sites for five years, and haven't found anything better. It's always good to research projects such as this, and that is why you should look at all internet forums such as this one to get what ever you can from them.
Unfortunately, going to a manual will really cost a lot in time and money, depending on what resources you have available; around $2,500 would not be unreasonable for the above example. That's including the computer tune you would have to get to make it perform to it's maximum.
Good Luck!

I'm in the process of swapping a T-3650 into my '02. I'm doing the swap with good used parts, which should be fine for now because I don't beat on the car that much.

Basically, you need either a T45 or T3650, a Mustang slip yoke, a pedal setup (including cable or hydraulic lines), a flywheel, clutch, and pressure plate, and some form of tune, because the PCM is going to flip out when it doesn't see the shift solenoids.

If you plan on "driving it like you stole it", you should at least get a good aftermarket clutch and pressure plate. The other parts can be stock to start with, just bear in mind that Vics weigh more than Mustangs, and those stock parts will fail sooner than in a 'Stang.

I have everything I need, except for the tune, and I have less than $300 invested so far. So it can be done for a reasonable amount of money, it just depends on what kind of parts you want/need to put in your car, and what kind of deals you can find.

I'm also on CrownVic.net, and Mr. Hodges is right in that it is the best source for almost anything Crown Vic related.
