Ford Crown Victoria Though they were what most people drove in the 1950s and 1960s, full-size cars like the Ford Crown Victoria are now an anomaly. But Ford's biggest sedan still offers significant virtues, including affordable V8 performance and room for six people. Today, the Crown Victoria's passenger and cargo volumes compare favorably against fashionable SUVs.

Default 1997 4.6L Crown Vic... Looking to upgrade

I just bought a used Crown Vic in the usual way. My local police department is very small and did not run this car hard.

As soon as I got the car I made sure to get an oil change, I put 1 tank of premium gas in it, and some fuel injector cleaner. For the most part, the car seems to be in great condition. I do have one issue that I can see right now. The CPU tells me that I have an O2 sensor bad. I have run cars with bad O2 sensors before, but I don't want to get in a habit of mistreating this car. I will replace that sensor within two weeks.

Some people have told me that turbos are an option. However, I am not really interested. I am looking for more fuel efficiency. I also heard that replacing the stock mufflers with a better quality is a good idea as well as replacing the resonator with a straight pipe. I don't mind if the car gets a little bit louder, but I don't want it to be annoying.

So, this is my new project. If anyone has some intelligent advice, please send it my way.

If you dont take care of that o2 sensor right now you will lose your catalitic convertors at $500. Run synthatic motor oil (5/40) and motor craft oil filters or FORD only /they have an anti bleed back valve in them. The oil stays in the top of the motor if it sits over night.Go here and read what is available to make it better Blue Oval Chips Inc. - Welcome. Your car does not have resonators. Pump your tires to 40 .42 pounds air .Under your rear bumper are two Small brackets holding the middle of the bumper .Take them off and use two plastic tyes and pull the bottom of your rear bumper up as close as you can to the support frame . Those 4 things should help your fuel mileage.Change your oil every 5000 to 7000 with the synthatic motor oil (5/40)
